A Beginner's Guide: Creating Your Very First Snippet

If you’re just getting started with TextExpander, the very first thing you’ll want to do is create a Snippet. It might seem intimidating, but the basic process is incredibly simple. Here’s a quick walkthrough from our recent webinar, “Mastering the Art of Snippet Creation.” Need to know when to create a Snippet? See What should you actually turn into a text Snippet? Here are some ideas.

For a visual guide, you can watch the exact process here:

Step 1: Find the “New Snippet” Button

In the main app window, you’ll see a bright orange “New Snippet” button right in the center. Click that to begin.

Step 2: Copy Your Content

Think of something you type often. For the example in our video, we used a SOAP Notes template, but it could be anything! An email signature, a common reply, a link you always share, etc.

Select all the text and copy it to your clipboard (Command+C on Mac, Control+C on Windows).

Step 3: Paste it into the Snippet Editor

Once you click the “New Snippet” button, an editor will appear on the right. Simply paste your copied text into this blank section.

What’s Next? You’ve created a basic Snippet! As you can see in the video clip, your next steps will be to clean it up and format it exactly how you want it. Then you can add things like Fill-in fields and other powerful features.
