I would like radio buttons. I know I can have a drop down list but that takes two clicks. Radio buttons are one. I would also like to use variables or have the snippet change based on a selection. For example I might have a drop down list that has Alice, Bob, and Charlie listed as option. If I chose Alice I want it to type 1234. Bob 5678. Charlie 90120. etc.. Right now I would have to setup 3 snips to accomplish that (at least as I understand it).
Please bring back your wonderful IOS version.
I have had to switch to WordBoard because we use IOS so frequently now. I would love to go back to TextExpander.
What happened to your development team for IOS?
+100 for this one. We send confirmation emails with embedded links where the text doesn’t change but the URL does.
E.G. “We have uploaded your footage to Dropbox” where ‘Dropbox’ is a hotlink to a unique folder for each request. I’d love to be able to paste in the URL straight from the fill-in
Hi Linda, welcome! Have you tried our iOS beta?
Hey Hey!
I would love the ability to use bullets in our snippets, I found a work around to copy/paste a bullet and it DOES translate when using the snippet, however I’d like to use that option in the snippets.
A migration tool would be phenomenal. We rebranded and had to find out the hard way that snippets don’t migrate well to new accounts. Everything was translated to plain text and was a mess to clean up.
Thanks for the feedback, Carrie! Some clarifying questions for you below.
We support bullet and numbered lists in Snippets. Does this do what you need? If not, how can we improve it?
Were you migrating from TextExpander on one domain to an account on the other? Did anyone from your org contact our support? They’re usually pretty helpful with migrations.
- an edit/version history
- authoring tags
Version history is here, it’s just not evenly distributed yet.
I use bullets with “options” that allow me to select “Alice” or “Bob,” and in doing so, it will populate whatever is in that option.
Not sure if that is what you are looking for (snip attached).
My first wish list item is that I’d like to use organizational text in my bulleted options lists that do not expand. Maybe the better term is “helper text”. I have a list of about 50 bulleted options and I often only need one from a specific category but I don’t want separate snippets for each category, I want the whole list in front of me. I currently have it organized thematically. I thought I had figured out a way to include my “helper text or organizational headings” before…but alas I cannot recall how I did it.
Thank you Kim! We are tracking requests for that – helper text that doesn’t expand. I will add a +1 for that.
In the meantime, would be interested to hear from others if anyone has a workaround for this that could help Kim.
I dropped this one in as a feature request several years ago but it’s never come to fruition…
Internal clipboard history so that multiple elements of the clipboard can be used in a snippet. So, instead of just “clipboard” you could insert “clipboard_2” and “clipboard_4” etc. Exactly the same as can be done with Alfred or Keyboard Maestro.
User-definable keyboard shortcuts to be deployed within snippets. So, in the Keyboard macros bit, you could define a keyboard shortcut to be pressed, in the same manner as, say, Return. By way of example, I use an app whereby tab/indent is actually performed by ⌘+]. This can’t be achieved in Textexpander snippets without code. Yes, I could do this with AppleScript, but as Textexpander snippets are not modular blocks, I then have to do the whole snippet in AppleScript.
Textexpander snippets are not modular blocks
You might try nested snippets. You can embed snippets inside snippets, which is how I often mix in javascript or applescript snippets.
Great feedback. It would also be nice in the Communities (under each topic) to be able to sort by most recent & oldest, at the top, in addition to the scrolling bar for a quicker sort.
I’ve used nested snippets since they were introduced, but not with scripts being nested. I just gave keystroke deployment a go with nested AppleScript and got nowhere. It’s far too fiddly this way. I know what I’m doing with Shortcuts or an Alfred workflow to achieve similar. Thanks for flagging, anyways.
Welcome, Sondra! This isn’t a built-in feature, but an available plugin allows this functionality. I’ll talk to @roger about the viability of enabling it. My two concerns about that:
- Any time you add a plugin, it opens the door to security and stability issues.
- It could be confusing for other users.
We have an Organizational version where each team has their own Group and only has access to that group rather than the entire org. However each group covers a ton of products and it would be nice to be able to have more grouping options within a specific Group so that we can create folders or collapsible groups of Snippets within a Group so that I don’t have to have 200 snippets in one folder organized only by adding suffixes
Is there a way to create nested bulleted lists in TE? E.g.:
- Item 1
- Item 1.2
- Item 2
- Item 2.2
