There are many common symbols that you won’t find on most physical keyboards, such as:
- ¢ (Cents)
- © (Copyright)
- ° (Degree symbol)
- € (Euro)
- ¥ (Japanese Yen)
- ® (Registered trademark)
Both macOS and Windows offer various codes or key combinations to type these, but they’re hard to remember. For example, press Option-4 on the Mac to insert the cents symbol. On Windows, press the Alt key and type 0162 on the number pad.
TextExpander offers a better solution. Create a Snippet with ¢ (or any other symbol) as the content. Then, add a simple abbreviation and label you can remember. If you subscribe to the Community Snippets Public Group, an example Snippet is included, which you can expand by typing com.cents
. I recommend making your own copy and giving it a shorter abbreviation like ;cents
.
I hope this little how-to makes cents!
