Including shortcut key combo in a Snippet?

Hi there,

I am finding new ways of using Text Expander all the time with this discussion threads. I had some insirpiration from another thread about note taking.

I use Obsidian and run a notes sheet that remains open all day in a fixed window. I create a heading for each day and format it using a shortcut of Alt + 1.

Can I create use the Alt + 1 keyboard combo in a snippet to format the heading? I can change my shortcut combo to something else if needed. I couldn’t find anything when searching this topic. Maybe I was too broad with search terms.

Sadly, there’s no way to deploy a custom keyboard shortcut in Textexpander UI over and above the Enter, Escape, Return or Tab you can use in Textexpander snippets.

If on a Mac, Textexpander can run AppleScript though, so you may be better off just doing your whole workflow in AppleScript and triggering via a snippet. You can deploy keyboard shortcut combinations with AppleScript.

Outside of that, Alfred, Better Touch Tool, Keyboard Maestro et al, could do similar with their respective workflow options.

Maybe this part obvious I’m trying to understand the original comment above. But you can use text expander with keyboard maestro.

This macro is set up to work with super whisper while in text expander, using keyboard maestro macro

I actually have a keyboard maestro macro that starts my text expander snippet and then as I go through each fill-in, I’m able to give a shortcut key or trigger to go to the next fill in snippet and it also on at least one of these macros will also pause in the drop-down fields to allow me to select. And I haven’t figured it out but sometimes in text expander you can use your abbreviation to expanded text not using text expander but apples, keyboard shortcuts or text shortcut it’s
I can explain it better

Typing “!MSE” causes a ready to update and add a full mental status examination to pop up into some of the fields in text expander, but I’ve noticed sometimes it doesn’t work. And you don’t get the abbreviation to convert to the expanded text. I typed the abbreviation and then it just sits there. It’s a dud.

Can’t figure out why in some fillings multiline it works and in others it doesn’t

OP is querying if you can deploy a keyboard shortcut as part of the snippet expansion. So, when the snippet has expanded, it will in this case, deploy the date, but then apply a keyboard shortcut (Alt+1) to apply the formatting. You cannot do this within Textexpander it doesn’t support workflows as I indicated. The only keyboard keys you can deploy are those that I’ve also indicated.

TL;DR - Can I put a custom keyboard shortcut in a Textexpander snippet and have it deployed on snippet expansion? No.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I am using Windows machine mostly for this so Alfred or other Mac solutions don’t work for my daily. But I will explore those on my Mac for other uses.
