MCP Use Case: De-dupe Your Snippets With AI Before They Multiply

Ever find three Snippets that all say almost the same thing, but nobody is quite sure which one is the current version?

One says “refund policy.”
One says “refund info.”
One says “updated refund reply FINAL.”
And somehow, none of them feel final.

That’s how duplicate Snippets sneak into the library and start causing confusion.

The TextExpander MCP Server can help by giving supported AI assistants a way to work with your Snippet library through plain-language requests. Getting started is easy. You don’t need to be technically inclined, and you’ll be done in about 5 minutes! Check out our TextExpander MCP Server Getting Started Guide to get going

:light_bulb:Instead of manually searching through every Snippet Group, you can ask your AI assistant to look for similar Snippets and suggest which ones might be duplicates or candidates for cleanup.

For example, you might ask:

“Search for Snippets that seem similar to our refund policy response and list possible duplicates. Do not make changes yet.”

You can update the prompt to spot Snippets that are:

Saying the same thing in slightly different ways
Using old wording
Living in the wrong Snippet Group
Missing the latest link or policy language
Confusing teammates about which version to use

A few tips before trying this:

Start with a high-use response
Ask for a report before making changes
Review suggested duplicates before deleting or editing anything
Choose one approved version as the source of truth

:bullseye:The goal is to find one duplicate cluster, tidy it up, and make it easier for your team to grab the right response next time.

Less “which version do I use?”
More “found it, sent it, done.”

Question for the community:
How do you keep your Snippet library free of duplicates?
