Meta data for snippets

Another thing I would like to suggest: as my library grows I feel a need to be able to:

  • annotate snippets: whatever you think you need
  • see creation and modification dates; change counter perhaps
  • tagging as a way to organize snippets accross groups
  • usage counter: how many times a snippet is called to expand

The way we make notes for individual snippets is by using the OPTIONAL SECTION macro at the top of the snipett content window and write notes or instructions in between the bubbles… And never expecting to select that option upon expanding

Excellent suggestions. Long overdue.

  • I’d add cross platform implementations with an identical UI.

IMHO (In My Humble Opinion)

Thanks for the suggestions, @MarsAussendorf! I’m going to pass these to the Product team. Are you aware of our Snippet Activity feature, which lets you see and restore previous versions of Snippets? It’s now available to everyone.

I don’t understand. Where is the “optional section” that you refer to? This must be in that “you see and I can’t” area of the JoHari window of understanding.

Thanks,
FJohn

Go to + New Snippet
Click on the 6th icon “Fill-Ins” of the bar under the Rich Text button
Click on “Optional Section”
In the popup, give it a name, like “Info” or “Don’t select” or whatever
Click OK, now your cursor is between two bubbles… Begin typing or pasting description or other info you want available to the snippet user that will NOT appear after expansion as long as you don’t click in the little box…so while expanding, the info remains red, not turning green.
