I don’t know if I asked for early access, but I would definitely like to be considered.
Also yesterday or over the weekend, I’m not even sure exactly how this would come out
But as I hear about these snippets expanding. The idea was always a mystery, but then I thought here’s what they may mean is using the snippet with the options.
And basically, I tried to I would call it layering. The initial snippet that we might call the parent or the mother, might even be filling multi line, but then within that to create a pop-up of multiple choice 1234 drop-down menu, an option, fill-in menu and adding creating an option fill-in within an option fill-in…
But then I ran into another issue for some reason some of my new snippets are not being activated by the shortcut
Some of them are really basic and not sure why?
What would be the most common reason if you’ve created a abbreviation?
And is there any requirement on the number of characters that have to be in the abbreviation? I don’t think that’s what was causing the issue, but some of them were short, but even when I then made it a longer abbreviation to trigger the snippet it still didn’t work..
It might even be my Internet, inconsistency at times just trying to figure this out
What I think I’m trying to say, is it option to enable within another snippet that’s an option to enable that’s also within a snippet that you have to enable and in order to get down to the last one having to activate each of those steps and maybe that’s what you guys are doing on a regular basis. I’ve just never tried to do it with multiple.
And that’s what I was also concerned about is because you do get that at the end of the snippet you do get that code and so you can end up having multiple end lines or end indications again I’m hoping I’m making sense
Hi, @ThomasJohnson, I moved your questions to a new topic so they get seen. I’ve also rephrased your questions below:
What are the most common reasons a Snippet abbreviation might not trigger?
Common things we see:
- A “Secure Input” flag in the menu bar
- TextExpander not running in the background
- Expansion is disabled — Click File in the menu bar and ensure that it offers a Disable Expansion (but don’t click on it!)
- Check Preferences > Expansion, ensure that Expand Abbreviations is on and Expansion Mode is set to Immediately When Typed.
- Check Group Settings. Is there a Group Prefix set? Is Expand In set to all applications? What is your Expand When setting? The default is for a Snippet to expand only after a whitespace like space or tab.
Is there a minimum number of characters required for an abbreviation?
No. You can use a single character as an abbreviation, but I wouldn’t recommend it, since the fewer characters you have, the more likely it is you expand it accidentally.
Could inconsistent internet connection interfere with Snippet expansion?
No. The internet connection is only for syncing your Snippet library. All expansion happens on your computer.
Is it possible to put a fill-in within another fill-in?
Long answer, yes, but I would avoid it in most cases. However, that’s separate from your expansion issue.
Extra lines or codes at the end of a nested Snippet
I would have to see an example to tell you what’s happening there, but that should not be happening.
