If you’re wondering how to find the correct URL to use, here’s how!
Go to the app of your choice and perform a search – here in Google Drive I’m searching for a company name, TextExpanderLooking at what populates in the URL bar after you hit enter to start the search, you can see you’ll need to add the TextExpander Fill-in after the = when you build your snippet. I actually can’t talk about my favorite feature yet, because it’s still a secret!
However, I can talk about a feature I love: The capability to insert the contents of your clipboard into a Snippet. This has a lot of uses, but mine is very simple: I have a Snippet with only the clipboard contents and the Content Type set to Plain Text.
This way, whenever I copy text with formatting already applied, like from a web page or Google Doc, I can paste it into the document I’m working on without bringing over the unwanted formatting. Outside of txp for TextExpander, this is probably my single most-used Snippet.
Ok, fine, that is tied for favorite with Inline Search. The ability to bring up my entire library of Snippets to search anywhere I am typing with a quick keyboard shortcut is magic!
In case you haven’t tried it, the Keyboard Shortcuts are:
macOS: ⌘ + /
Windows: ctrl + /
Chrome Extension: ctrl + .
Inline Search is also my favorite feature. At TextExpander, we have tons of snippets, and it is impossible to remember the abbreviation for each one. With just a couple of keystrokes, I can pull up my “second brain” and find the snippet I need.
@macfixer I guess I can share the secret now: My current favorite feature is Snippet Activity, which gives you Google Docs-style revision history, letting you see every edit to a Snippet and restore prior versions. It’s currently only available for Enterprise admins, but we are exploring expanding it to other tiers.
