Exporting from TextExpander v4.x to v8.x

We are currently using TextExpander v4.x into the new shared environment in v8.x However, I can not figure out how everyone moves their existing snippets to the new account.
I see I can do a backup of their existing ones, but I cannot see a way to get them into their personal account in v8.

I know I must be missing something basic, but I am crying “uncle” and hoping someone can help.

Never mind! I figured it out!

  1. Export Group from v 4
  2. Save to a new folder
  3. Quit v 4x
  4. Log into TE account at our domain
  5. Go to Import/Export page in your account and drop up to 10 files at a time to import into your new account.
  6. Quit TE 4x
  7. Open TE 8x

You’re very welcome! I’m glad to hear you were able to successfully Import your existing Snippets!

If you need to Import any other Snippet Groups, here are the two different ways to accomplish a Snippet Group transfer:

Option 1 - If you are still able to open the older version of TextExpander -

To get your Snippets from the older version of TextExpander:
-Right-click on the name of the Group you want to transfer and select “Save a copy”
-Choose where you would like the file to go (Desktop or Downloads are great since you only need the files temporarily)
-Go to https://app.textexpander.com/importSnippets and choose the files you saved.

Option 2 - If the older version of TextExpander will no longer open -

To access the file needed to bring your Snippets into Version 8, please do the following:

  1. Open Finder and choose Go > Go to Folder. Paste in this address then click Go:
    ~/Library/Application Support/TextExpander
  2. Locate the following file:
    Settings.textexpandersettings
    (If you had Dropbox or iCloud sync set up previously, it’s possible this file is in another location.)
  3. Compress your Settings.textexpandersettings file by control-clicking the file > Compress “Settings.textexpandersettings”.
  4. Attach this file to an email to support@TextExpander.com

We will then convert the Snippet Groups for you, and send them back in a format that you can import here:
