Hey there, I’m Loren, a product designer here at TextExpander. A significant part of my job involves talking to customers to understand how they use TextExpander. These conversations are incredibly valuable, but recruiting and scheduling customers can be time-consuming and cumbersome.
Fortunately, I use TextExpander to automate the customer recruiting process while maintaining a personal tone in my messages. I want to share one of my customer research recruiting snippets to help others looking to streamline their research recruiting process.
Here’s a recent customer research snippet I use for outreach. I’ve highlighted a few key areas below that I’d like to explain.
1. Tab Keyboard Macro: This mimics pressing the tab key, which is helpful when filling out multiple fields with a single snippet. Add a subject line to the top of the snippet and insert the Tab Keyboard Macro right after it. I’ve sent hundreds of emails, and the tab function still feels like magic every time I expand.
2. Personalization with the Single Line Field fill-in: I get better response rates to recruiting emails when I include the person’s first name. I’ve added a Single Line Field fill-in at two spots within the snippet.
3. Emphasize the important parts with Rich Text formatting: People are busy! I don’t expect them to read the full email, so I bold the most important parts for skimmers out there.
4. Scheduling link: Calendly makes scheduling time with customers super easy. They click the link and select a time slot on my calendar. It handles conferencing links and cancellations, too! I include my Calendly link directly in the snippet.
5. Customize gratuity amounts with a Popup Menu: We often offer gratuity to research participants. The amount varies depending on the session length. Using a Popup Menu fill-in lets me quickly select the appropriate gratuity amount for each session.
Here’s what the snippet looks like expanded in Gmail:
That’s my research recruiting snippet. I continuously refine it as I discover new ways to make it more personalized.
