macOS 27 Golden Gate beta with TextExpander

:cowboy_hat_face: Howdy!

In the latest (as of 09-Aug-2026) version of TextExpander running under 27.0 Beta (26A5388g) — TextExpander will respond slower and slower to my abbreviations until it refuses to expand text at all and just stops my writing dead in it’s tracks. When I quit and relaunch TextExpander it starts working again.

I know macOS 27 Golden Gate is just a beta, but I wanted to just put that out there.

Hello! Thank you so much for flagging this while the beta is still early. Reports like this are genuinely useful to us, so I appreciate you taking the time.

For context on where we stand: some of us have been running the Golden Gate betas since the first developer release in June, and TextExpander has been behaving normally for us on 8.4.4 through 8.4.6, so what you are describing is new information. That makes the details of your setup pretty valuable.

A few things that would help me narrow this down:

  1. Confirm your TextExpander version under Help > About TextExpander. I expect 8.4.6, but I would like to be certain.
  2. Roughly how long after launching TextExpander does the slowdown start, and does it seem tied to elapsed time or to how many expansions you have done?
  3. Does the degradation happen everywhere, or does it show up first in one particular app?
  4. When it reaches the point of not expanding at all, does the TextExpander menu bar item show any Secure Input notice? 8.4.6 surfaces that status more clearly than earlier versions did.
  5. Have any of your other keyboard tools or custom shortcuts gone flaky in this same build? One of my colleagues had unrelated function key shortcuts stop responding after the most recent beta, so I want to see whether this is broader than TextExpander on your machine.

The most helpful single thing would be logs captured at the moment it has stopped expanding, before you quit and relaunch. Two notes on that:

  1. Please enable Detailed Logging first, then reproduce the problem, then gather the logs. Without Detailed Logging the expansion activity we need will not be in the file. There is a short walkthrough here: https://share.zight.com/kpuqm8qe
  2. Send those to support@textexpander.com rather than attaching them here, since logs can contain snippet content you would not want public. Mention this thread in the email and it will get routed to me.

In the meantime, the quit and relaunch you found is the right stopgap. On my side I will get us testing specifically against 26A5388g.

Hope to hear from you soon! Have a great day!

All the best,

  • Nick

  1. It is indeed 8.4.6

  2. I am unsure. It seems to be after a few days of uptime, if that helps.

  3. Yes, everywhere.

  4. No.

  5. Not that I’m aware of (I have the Logitech Options+ drivers and Keyboard Maestro 11.x).

I also got the notification that TextExpander 8.4.7 was released. I’ll see if that fixes the issue.
