Hi,

Any news on macOS 26 Tahoe compatibility?

Hi, Jozef. So far, we haven’t heard any complaints from users of the current TextExpander desktop app. However, there have been issues with versions 4 and 5.

I upgraded to Tahoe on my personal M1 iMac and my corporate M1 MacBook pro last week. My work Mac is where I use TextExpander most, and it has been a disappointment. In particular, where TextExpander used to seamlessly expand snippets at my “/” delimiter in fields of certain corporate apps in Chrome, now I type the snippet abbreviation and the delimiter and wait . . . and after a few seconds I backspace and do it all over and then it expands.

I’m a heavy user, so this is making me nuts. So nuts, in fact, I erased my MacBook and reainstalled everything, to no avail. I’m very bummed.

Hi @RobEdward, I’m sorry to hear you’ve been having trouble and that you went through all the trouble of reinstalling everything with no improvement. The engineering team is aware and actively investigating.

Thanks, Josh. I’m happy to do a Teams or Zoom call if someone wants to see the behavior.

Hi, I’m using TextExpander 4.3.7 which is more than enough for my modest needs. After updating to Tahoe, TextExpander does not start anymore - error message included. Is there anything I can do? TIA, Klaus

Hi Klaus, I’ve forwarded this to our support team.

Hi Klaus,

We have been receiving reports of this error from other Version 4 users. I’m afraid I don’t have a workaround to fix this within Version 4. A clean install does not seem to be helping in these cases.

The tricky thing is that we have not worked on developments to Version 4 or Version 5 in 10+ years and as the macOS continues to evolve it’s much more likely that the TextExpander app will become incompatible.

Our support team is happy to help you get your Snippets into a form that you can transfer them into our most recent version of the TextExpander app. We also have an offer we can provide you since you would be moving from one of our older versions.

To access the file needed to bring your Snippets into Version 8, please do the following

  1. Open Finder and choose Go > Go to Folder. Paste in this address then click Go:
    ~/Library/Application Support/TextExpander
  2. Locate the following file:
    Settings.textexpandersettings
  3. Compress your Settings.textexpandersettings file by control-clicking the file > Compress “Settings.textexpandersettings”.
  4. Attach this file to an email and send it to us at support@textexpander.com

Thanks for your suggestions. I’ve already extracted my snippets from the settings file and will decide next what to do with them.

Hi @RobEdward
Are you still seeing the delays? We haven’t been seeing or hearing of any reports of problems with 8.3.1 on Tahoe 26.0.1.

If you are, please reach out to our support team at https://textexpander.com/contact and open up a ticket and we’d love to help get to the bottom of it!
