I struggle with deciding what to do when I have a snippet conflict because one snippet abbreviation is a prefix of another. For example, if I type ‘counterfit’, I want TE to autocorrect to ‘counterfeit’. And if I type ‘counterfitter’, I want TE to autocorrect to ‘counterfeiter’. This doesn’t work, of course, because ‘counterfit’ is a prefix of ‘counterfitter’. If I were using TE for a snippet to expand to some other words or phrase, I would correct the conflict by using a prefix like a semicolon, slash, etc. But when the snippet abbreviatiion is a normal word, what to do? Any suggestions? What do you do in a case like this?
Typing the question to the community apparently triggered my brain. Here’s a good solution for my case. If I edit the ‘counterfit’ snippet, click on cursor macros, then click abandon delimeter, that causes it not to expand immediately when I 've typed ‘counterfit’. That allows me to type ‘counterfitter’ before that is auto corrected, or if I type a space, it autocorrects ‘counterfit’. Perfect.
Thanks for the tip, Gene! I’ve often found I solve my problems when I sound them out loud.
