meanwhile I tried shutdown/start and switching TE Keyboard off and on in System Settings, to no avail…
I think that may be an older version of TextExpander. Not that it’s much better, but this is the latest beta for iOS/iPadOS:
This has been the situation for a long time in both the old and Beta version. There is seemingly no desire or ability to fix it.
I hope that someone from TE-Team soon answers here…
I just noticed that TE is not in the iPad Appstore anymore. Whats up with that?
I’ve given this feedback to the beta team many times. I’ve even posted about it before on the TE communities. So, I concur that “[t]here is seemingly no desire . . . to fix it.”
I recenlty stumbled on a workaround: Pinch in on the keyboard to minimize it and then press the globe to open the TextExpander keybaord. It will no longer appear compressed and is working nicely so far. You can search through your snippets, as you can on a Mac, which is quite useful.
I’m really looking forward to their keyboard fix because I find TextExpander so useful and love it.
Hi everyone, I apologize for not responding yesterday! I will alert the product and support teams and get you all a proper response.
In the meantime, please make sure you’re running the latest version of the beta from Testflight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/vKrjNFUr
@Thomas_U Here’s an explainer from our CEO on the status of the beta:
I must apologize: I was not aware, that there was a beta available. 4.6.5 had worked fine in iPadOS 18.x
Uninstalled 4.6.5 and installed the beta. All OK for now, I’ll report via Testflight from now on.
@josh.centers @J.D. I appreciate your apologies and explanations. A monthly report in the blog and here would fill the void that such a long process creates.
I kind of complained yesterday but your response times are much faster than lots of other software makers.
@josh.centers Do you know whether the compressed appearance of the keyboard letters on iPads is related to the SDK? It seems to be a style issue rather than a platform level roadblock.
I do not know for sure, but I’m sure @AnandRajaram or another engineer could say for sure. As J.D. mentioned, there are many technical roadblocks in adapting TextExpander to iOS.
In my 100% personal opinion, and as someone who reviewed Apple software for many years, I have never found a third-party keyboard that is reliable enough for daily use. I strongly suspect the quality of the available tools is the main factor there.
@HaniSarji and @Thomas_U I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We have seen some keyboard visibility issues with the release of iOS 26, and I believe it is related to their SDK. We have noticed that with the latest beta versions, the keyboard has started to look significantly better. I am currently running the pre-release for 26.1 (23B82) on an iPad Pro 12.9 (5th Gen), and the only issue I have encountered with the keyboard is that when I rotate it from portrait to landscape, the keys sometimes appear distorted. However, when you rotate it back one more time, it returns to normal. I have not been able to try it on an 11-inch yet. This is something that are looking into and will keep you up to date with what we find.
