iOS keyboard improvement

Hi! I would like it if the TextExpander team improves the iOS app’s TE keyboard so that it matches the iOS keyboard in size and shape exactly. It seems like whenever I switch to it, the letters shift slightly. Thanks, Kerry

I second this request for the beta iOS TE’s keyboard. This must be improved:

And I need to be able to use my up-and-down arrow keys when a phyical keyboard is attached.

Thanks!

Just to be sure, are you using the latest versions of the beta?

I would like to second this request as well. Very important!!!

I want to confirm that the discontinued (pre-beta) version of the iOS TE app has similar display problems with the on-screen keyboard (but when I attach a physical keyboard, up-and-down arrow keys work in the old version).

Yes the keyboard isn’t the same as the Apple layout so I end up touching the wrong keys.

I’m testing the iOS Beta keyboard and want to consolidate and add to the list of issues:

  • Visual Problem: Spacing of the keys in the virtual keyboard that appears on the screen is not good because the keys overlap. (I mentioned this issue earlier and included a screenshot.)
  • When Physical Keyboard is Attached
    • Up/Down Arrow Keys: I’m unable to use the up/down arrow keys because they merely move the cursor left/right, duplicating the left/right arrow keys. (Current Workaround: I can use the touchpad to click on the line I need.)
    • Select All: I’m unable to select all text using cmd + A. (Current Workaround: I can still select text using the touchpad.)

Because TextExpander on the iPad is so important to me, I’d be happy to assist with both coding and testing. If you’re able to share the code via a private GitHub repository, I’m willing to sign an NDA or take any other necessary steps to help support the development.

Additionally, I’d love to explore whether it might be possible to revive the discontinued TextExpander app. Ideally, users would have both the functionality of the new beta keyboard (which allows snippet expansion in any app) and the flexibility of the discontinued app (which allowed users to create and test snippets). This would be similar to Grammarly’s approach, with a standalone app and integrated keyboard.

Hi @HaniSarji! The squashed keyboard view should now be resolved in 8.2.4 in TestFlight. (Is this an 11" iPad Pro you are using?)

I’m using the iPad Pro 13 inch model. I’m using 8.2.4 (824001) in TestFlight and the problem is not resolved in both landscape and portrait modes.
