Hey Michael
We don’t have that functionality today, but I will add it to our list of feature requests. If we do explore adding this functionality, could we reach out to you for feedback?
Thanks for this information Lauren. Yes, please feel free to get in touch for feedback. Happy to provide it.
Michael
@MichaelBritt - I’m not sure what your specific use case is, but I wanted to jump in to see if this might help… I use a program that will send a message if you hit Enter (which is very annoying!), but will start a new paragraph if you hit Shift+Enter, so I support this feature request!
That being said, I do have Snippets that work in that other program, without automatically sending the first paragraph. It looks like I set it up as separate paragraphs but didn’t actually use the “Keyboard Macros” - Screenshot attached:
Have you already tried that and it didn’t work?
Interesting. Let me give this a try…
Hey guys, so I have a question–is what you are wanting a “line break”? Under keyboard in the snippet editor we have the option of “Enter” or “Return”. Is one of those a “line break” (shift-enter) and the other a carriage return (enter)? Will that accomplish it for you?
Hiere’s a brief video is what I’d like to be able to do in TextExpander: https://app.screencast.com/ZvV1bj9XpQXoF
So in your video, when you tab so you are in the text box below, can you not just use the right arrows in the snippet to advance through the text to the position you want? They are found in “Cursor macros.”
Yep, I think TDK is right. Try adding 3 right arrows to your Snippet and I think that’ll do what you want. Let us know if it works!
Yup! That did it. Thanks all!
Can I call this one back folks?
I’m trying to create a number of sub-items in a Monday board and I need Shift+Enter to start a new subitem. Functionally, they are separate text boxes. The arrow workaround doesn’t help in this case, so Shift+Enter really does seem to be the only option here.
Hi Kevin!
Thanks for reporting this! Shift+Enter would be a great addition to keyboard macros.
We’ll add it to our feature requests.
In the meantime, it might be worth giving the Tab option a try to see if that helps you move between sub-item fields. In many form interfaces, Tab will navigate to the next field, which could work for your workflow.
Thank you for writing in! Keep the feature requests coming!
Since you bring up tab…What about shift-tab? I have a use case where I would want to back tab, which highlights contents of the prior field so that I can start typing and erase the previous value. Tabbing forward isn’t highlighting the text but tabbing past it and then back does.
