I’ll kick things off.
I use a Keychron Q1 QMK Custom Mechanical Keyboard - Version 2, decked out with Gateron G Pro Brown switches. And yes, I gave it a bold splash of orange paint (naturally)! This trusty keyboard has been my companion for two years, and it’s not budging anytime soon. It’s my ultimate tool for expansion magic!
My keyboard is very old school. I type on a Unicomp New Model M with a customized Mac layout. Unicomp still produces keyboards in the United States at their factory in Lexington, Kentucky, based on the old IBM Model M patents. You can read my TidBITS review from back in the day to learn how to have it customized for the Mac.
The New Model M isn’t a mechanical keyboard but rather a buckling spring keyboard. The result is a satisfying, springy click that is easy on the fingers. My son Stone demonstrates the sound of the keyboard here:
After many years with a Microsoft ergonomic keyboard, I recently switched to mechanical keyboards. My setup includes the Logitec MX Mini paired with a Logitec MX Master 3S Mouse.
I need to represent for the team scissor! I love my mechanical keyboards (I my Das Keyboards), but they were too rough on my hands, so I switched to the MX Keys S, which pairs nicely with my MX Master 3S mouse. Not as sexy as Cherry Blues, I know…
…and yes, I do type with my keyboard slightly askew. A perfectly aligned keyboard doesn’t ‘feel’ right to me.
